The signatures on these notes may appear to have been issued out of order, but in fact are correct because Volodymyr Stelmakh (signature 4) served as governor both before and after Sergiy Tigipko (signature 5). On 14 March 2018, the National Bank of Ukraine announced that it would stop issuing banknotes of 1, 2, 5, and 10 hryven, and would gradually replace worn notes with coins of the same denominations. However, the bank has since sold 60-note sheets of legal tender 1- and 2-hryven notes dated 2018 with signature 10. Any such individual notes have been cut from sheets.

Ukraine

With the collapse of the Russian and Austrian empires following World War I and the Russian Revolution of 1917, a Ukrainian national movement for self-determination developed and several separate Ukrainian states briefly emerged: the Ukrainian People’s Republic, the Hetmanate, the Directorate, and the pro-Bolshevik Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic (or Soviet Ukraine).
