These notes commemorates 40 years of Seychelles’ independence, with the theme “Seychelles’ Unique Biodiversity–the backbone of our economy.” The three lower denominations are the first in the world to use De La Rue’s Kinetic StarChrome windowed security thread which combines color-changing and holographic technologies. The coco-de-mer nuts at lower left front are raised tactile marks to assist the sight-impaired distinguish between denominations.

Seychelles 500 Rupees banknote features rich tan, red, and brown tones with multilingual text in Creole, English, and French. The front showcases coco-de-mer nuts, the Seychelles coat of arms, and native flora and wildlife, including the Seychelles kestrel. The reverse features the Seychelles tiger chameleon, insects, wild flowers, and the Seychelles scops-owl, with advanced security elements such as color-shifting ink, holographic foil stripes, and a windowed security thread.

Government of Seychelles
Seychelles became a separate British colony in 1903, but continued to use banknotes from India and Mauritius as legal tender for several decades.
Republic of Seychelles
Founded in 1974, the Currency Commission of the Seychelles manages the nation’s currency. Despite being one of the world’s smallest countries, Seychelles issues its own independent currency, not pegged to or shared with any other nation.
Seychelles Monetary Authority
The Seychelles Monetary Authority was established on December 1, 1978, replacing the Currency Commission after the Seychelles Currency Act of 1974 was repealed.
Central Bank of Seychelles
