Netherlands Antilles

The Netherlands Antilles, also referred to informally as the Dutch Antilles, was an autonomous Caribbean country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands, consisting of two groups of islands in the Lesser Antilles: Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao (ABC Islands), just off the Venezuelan coast; and Sint Maarten, Saba, and Sint Eustatius (SSS islands), southeast of the Virgin Islands.

1 Netherlands Antillean guilder (ANG) = 100 cents.
The notes of the Netherlands Antilles are denominated in guilders, expressed on the notes using the Dutch word gulden.

1998 – 2016 Issues

These notes are like the preceding issues, but includes new security features, including Omron rings on both sides, colorful planchettes on back, and gold foil patches and iridescent printing on front. The 5-guilder note has been replaced by a coin, whereas the 250-gulden note was discontinued due to low demand.

The Netherlands Antilles was dissolved as a unified political entity on 10 October 2010, and the five constituent islands attained new constitutional statuses within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Bonaire, Saba, and Sint Eustatius became special municipalities within the Netherlands and adopted the US dollar on 1 January 2011. Curaçao and Sint Maarten became two new independent states within the Kingdom of the Netherlands, similar to Aruba. The old Bank van de Nederlandse Antillen became the Centrale Bank van Curaçao en St Maarten which plans to introduce a new common currency, the Curaçao St Maarten guilder (CMG) in 2012 at par with the Netherlands Antilles guilder, although the Antillean guilder will be maintained as legal tender for a transitional period.
