By law of 20 July 1928, the Banco de la Nación Boliviana was replaced as the sole banknote issuer by the Banco Central de Bolivia (Spanish: Central Bank of Bolivia, BCB). For more information, visit www.bcb.gob.bo.

2018 – 2019 Issues

The Banco Central de Bolivia began introducing a new family of five notes in denomination order starting in 2018 and ending in April 2019. These notes bear the country’s official name, Estado Plurinacional de Boliva, to reflect the multiculturalism of the country and all of its citizens. These notes received the Best New Series Award at the High Security Printing Latin America Conference in 2019.

2005 – 2015 Issues

These notes are like the preceding issues, but they have new suffixes, larger BCB latent images on front, and windowed security threads on denominations above 20 bolivianos. The 50-, 100-, and 200-boliviano notes with suffix H have wavy pearlescent stripes at left on back with vertical 50BCB, 100BCB, and 200BCB patterns, respectively.
On notes with suffix I, the REPUBLICADEBOLIVIA microprinting changed to ESTADOPLURINACIONALDEBOLIVIAand a pixelated pattern was added to the watermark between the portrait and the electrotype denomination.
