This 5-pound note is likely the first in a new family of notes of reduced size to match the current issues of the Bank of England.

2010 – 2011 Issues

Each note has a 6-digit serial number and fractional prefix. The prefix on each denomination starts at A/AA, and the second letter of the denominator advances alphabetically over time before advancing the first letter.

Current larger notes are being withdrawn from circulation and may be exchanged at commercial banks up to 31 January 2022. Afterward these may be redeemed at the Treasury Department of the Ministry of Finance.

2015 (2017) Commemorative Issues

This 100-pound banknote is dated 21 August 2015, the centenary of the birth of Sir Joshua Hassan. Nicknamed “Salvador” (Saviour), Sir Joshua was chief minister for a total of 22 years and is credited as being the most important architect of Gibraltar’s move towards self-determination.

2018 Numismatic Products

To commemorate World Tourism in 2018, the Government of Gibraltar created an official replica of the 10-shilling note of 1934 with a nominal legal tender value of 50 pence (in 2018 only), and sold by the Gibraltar Philatelic Bureau for £2.50.
